The Department of Health and Human Services is pleased to invite expressions of interest for appointment to part-time positions on the following trusts and boards in the Sport portfolio:

  • Kardinia Park Stadium Trust
  • Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust
  • Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust
  • Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board
  • State Sport Centres Trust
  • Victorian Institute of Sport Limited Board of Directors.

Expressions of interest will be retained in a pool of candidates for consideration when vacancies arise.

Each of the sporting trusts is responsible for managing land and facilities used for sport, recreation and entertainment purposes.

The Victorian Government invests in the sport facilities managed by the trusts to:

  • build and maintain Victoria's capacity to attract and retain major and significant events;
  • support state level and professional sporting teams competing in national and international competitions;
  • support athlete development through the provision of quality high performance coaching, training, sports science and recovery facilities for high performance athletes;
  • provide access to appropriate facilities that support the state-wide administration of sport; and
  • provide facilities that support participation in sport and recreation.

The Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board regulates the professional boxing and combat sports industry. Its functions are set out in section 14A of the Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Act 1985.

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) was established by the Victorian Government to assist the development of Victoria's best athletes.

The specific functions of each trust and board are summarised in the attached position descriptions. The expression of interest process includes an opportunity for candidates to identify one or more boards and trusts they are interested in joining.

Positions on the trusts and boards provide exciting opportunities for suitably qualified and experienced persons to contribute to the management and further development of Victoria's world class sporting and entertainment infrastructure, the combat sports industry or elite athlete development through the VIS.

As outlined in the position descriptions, members of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board and State Sport Centres Trust are eligible for remuneration, but members of the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust, Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust and the VIS Board of Directors are not.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government trusts and boards reflect the composition of the Victorian community. This includes appropriate representation of women, Aboriginal Victorians, young Victorians, Victorians living with a disability and Victoria's culturally diverse community. It is a Government commitment that no less than 50 per cent of all appointments to paid boards will be women.
