Forthcoming vacancies on the Victorian Disability Advisory Council

The Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Luke Donnellan MP is pleased to call for applications for the appointment of a Chairperson and 11 members to the Victorian Disability Advisory Council (the Council).

Applications are sought from people with disability, or carers of people with disability, who reside in Victoria.

The roles are remunerated and members are appointed for terms of up to three years.

As a member of the Council, you have the opportunity to provide independent advice to the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers about whole-of-government policies and initiatives to increase the inclusion and participation of people with disability in the Victorian community.

As the Chairperson, you will lead the Council and be responsible for maintaining constructive working relationships with Council members and others.

The Council has an important role in liaising with communities, monitoring the implementation of the Victorian state disability plan, and promoting the social, economic, and civic inclusion and participation of people with disability.

The Council meets bi-monthly in the Melbourne central business district and holds an annual planning day. The time commitment varies based on members' availability but there is an expectation that members contribute to some Council related activity outside of their regular meetings.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate high levels of performance in their chosen endeavours, be highly regarded in their communities, and have expertise in more than one of the following areas:

  • an appreciation and understanding of the broad policy context and issues relating to disability
  • strategic thinking, planning and leadership skills and experience on boards or committees of management
  • good knowledge and understanding of accountability and governance arrangements for statutory bodies
  • effective consultation and engagement with stakeholders.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the composition of the Victorian community. We welcome applications from women, regional Victorians, Aboriginal people, young people, and people from LGBTI and Victoria's culturally diverse communities.

The selection and remuneration of appointees to the Council is in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.
