Forthcoming vacancies on the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority

The Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos MP, is pleased to invite applications for five board members for the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA), for a term of appointment for up to two and half years commencing on 23 August 2019.

VARTA is established under s. 99 of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 and has a range of regulatory responsibilities in relation to assisted reproductive treatment in Victoria including:

  • registering fertility clinics in Victoria
  • managing the donor conception registers
  • providing information and support to applicants and people affected by applications
  • providing independent information and support for individuals, couples and health professionals on fertility and issues related to assisted reproductive treatment such as IVF, surrogacy and donor-conception.

These positions offer an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified applicants to contribute to the strategic direction and performance of VARTA. Applicants are expected to have knowledge of the environment in which VARTA operates at an industry or sector level and from either a legal or regulatory perspective. These positions also require applicants to have experience across:

  • corporate governance, including an understanding of regulatory governance and risk management
  • ethics, particularly working with issues that intersect ethical/social/legal/technical areas
  • board experience.

Lived experience of reproductive treatment including IVF, surrogacy and donor conception would be highly regarded.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the composition of the Victorian community. We welcome applications from women, regional Victorians, Aboriginal people, young people, people who identify as LGBTIQ and applicants from culturally diverse communities. The selection and remuneration of appointees is in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines 2018.
