Hanging Rock Ministerial Advisory Group

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), on behalf of the The Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, the Hon. Lily D'Ambrosio MP, is seeking expressions of interest for three group member positions for the Hanging Rock Ministerial Advisory Group

The positions are planned to start in July 2020 for a two-year period, until June 2022.

Hanging Rock is one of Victoria's most significant natural assets and the Victorian Government is committed to protecting the site for current and future generations.  Funding of $3 million has been provided for implementation of high priority actions in the Hanging Rock Strategic Plan over three years, including new environmental protections, greater recognition of Hanging Rock's ancestral and cultural significance to Traditional Owners and enhancing recreation opportunities for locals and visitors.

Over the next three years, DELWP will coordinate the implementation of a new joint governance arrangement for the precinct with Traditional Owners, gain a detailed understanding of the cultural and environmental values of the site and ensure a new masterplan is developed.

Members of the Hanging Rock Ministerial Advisory Group will be responsible for advising the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change on appropriate governance and management arrangements, and future development of the Hanging Rock Precinct, ensuring the aspirations of the Traditional Owners and other community interest groups are considered.

This is a unique opportunity to become actively involved in the strategic management and future development of the Hanging Rock Precinct.  The key attributes being sought from applicants include, analytical skills, strategic thinking and decision-making, critical thinking and problem solving.

Expressions of interest from people with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:

  • Governance
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Strategic and Statutory Planning
  • Land Management
  • Local Government
  • Asset management
  • Economics & Financial management
  • Tourism in relation to environment, heritage, events and recreation
  • Education
  • Social Science
  • Stakeholder engagement

The Group will meet at least three times a year at a location within 20kms of the Hanging Rock Reserve. 

Member's remuneration will be $240 per sitting day, set in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.
