Join a public sector board and make a difference in Victoria 

As part of our vision to deliver quality services and a safe, innovative and thriving Victoria, the Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking interest from industry leaders, professionals and community leaders to join our board member talent pool.

Government boards cover diverse areas and require specialist insight to deliver the strategic goals of the portfolio they represent. In return, board members receive the opportunity to develop their career and contribute to initiatives they care about.

Many boards require professional expertise in areas such as financial governance or risk management as well as industry experience relevant to the department's portfolio. These areas include but are not limited to: 

  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Corrections including offender rehabilitation and parole
  • Gaming
  • Legal and judicial systems
  • Regulation
  • Victim support and engagement
  • Youth Justice, youth engagement and youth offending
  • Inclusion and diversity
Industry qualifications and at least two years' experience as a corporate or government board member are an advantage, but not a prerequisite to appointments. Similarly, an understanding of legal, HR, marketing or technology business practices is beneficial but not mandatory.
Applicants are invited to register and submit an expression of interest through the Get on Board website ( including a current CV and cover letter addressing skills, affiliations, relevant experience, executive competencies and personal qualities.
As part of the DJCS Board talent pool, your expression of interest will be considered from time to time as and when DJCS board vacancies arise. Where candidates are shortlisted for consideration, they will receive a position description and remuneration will be advised in relation to specific vacancies and may be subject to Governor in Council approval.
