There is an exciting opportunity for a member of the ex-service community to join the Victorian Veterans Council.

The Victorian Veterans Council (the Council) is an independent statutory body established under Victoria's Veterans Act 2005 (the Act). As well as advising the Minister for Veterans, the Council promotes collaboration and coordination across Victorian ex-service organisations and provides advice to the Minister and Director of Consumer Affairs on the use of patriotic funds. The Council also supports veterans' welfare, commemoration and education programs through the distribution of grants from the Victorian Veterans Fund and the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund. The objectives and functions of the Council are defined under Sections 5 & 6 of the Act.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet invites ex-service organisations to nominate members of the ex-service community to become a member of the Council.

Under Section 8(8) of the Act, to be eligible for the role of Member of the Victorian Veterans Council, candidates must be a member of the ex-service community nominated to the Minister for Veterans by an ex-service organisation (other than RSL Victoria or Melbourne Legacy).

“A member of the ex-service community” means: all veterans, all surviving partners of veterans and all dependants of veterans.

Successful candidates will have skills, experience or knowledge in some or all of the areas of:

  • veterans' welfare;
  • aged care;
  • patriotic funds;
  • commemoration; and
  • the needs veterans' surviving partners and dependants.

General areas of skills or experience that would be considered favourably include governance; finance or administration.
