Forthcoming Vacancy on Commission for Children and Young People

Applications are invited by the Hon Luke Donnellan, Minister for Child Protection and Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, for appointment of the Principal Commissioner of the Commission for Children and Young People (the Commission).

The Commission is an independent statutory body established under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 2012 (the Act). The Act sets out the functions of the Commission in promoting and providing services relating to the safety or wellbeing of vulnerable children and young persons in the Victorian community.

The Principal Commissioner provides leadership and determines and implements the Commission's strategic direction to improve and ensure the rights of all children and young people in Victoria and recognised, respected and defended.

As the Principal Commissioner, you will be responsible in leading the Commission to strengthen the oversight and support for vulnerable children and young people in Victoria. The Commission regulates the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

To ensure that the organisation remains accessible, supportive and responsive to community needs, you will collaborate effectively with consumers, their carers and families, service providers and existing bodies, including the child protection services, youth justice services, community services, health services, human services, schools and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Principal Commissioner will be a dynamic and highly credible leader with a passion for safeguarding the rights and dignity of vulnerable children and a proven history of improving outcomes both for individuals and systemically. With senior executive experience in leading organisations or large functions in child protection, health, disability, mental health, human services or similar complex consumer services, you balance independent strategic analysis and advice with delivery and operational excellence.

People and outcomes focussed, your well-honed influencing and communication skills are equally evident in your people leadership and comfort in public presentations. With unquestionable integrity, you live your values, and present with nuance, drive and an ability to get things done.

The Principal Commissioner will be appointed from 4 April 2021 for a period not exceeding five years.

Any enquiries or requests for further information should be made to Ms Maree Doupe, Senior Project Officer, Entity Relationships Unit, Department of Health and Human Services via email at <Entity.Relationships@dhhs.vic.gov.au>.

All applications must be made through the Get on Board website and include a cover letter and current résumé. Applications must be received by midnight Sunday 6 December 2020. Late applications will not be accepted.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community. Applications are welcome from people of all ages, genders and sexual orientations, people with a disability, Aboriginal Victorians and Victorians from culturally diverse backgrounds.
