Victorian Fisheries Authority Board

The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is an independent statutory authority established to effectively manage Victoria's fisheries resources. We work closely with many stakeholders to deliver three core outcomes: sustainable fishing and aquaculture; clear resource access and sharing arrangements; and increased economic, social and cultural value. The VFA will also be responsible for implementing boating reforms.

The Minister for Fishing and Boating is seeking a Deputy Chairperson and a Director to join the VFA's Board. Accountable to the Minister for Fishing and Boating, the VFA Board is responsible for the governance, strategic planning and risk management of the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

The Minister for Fishing and Boating is seeking candidates with demonstrable experience in organisational governance and natural resource management. Successful candidates will work with the VFA Chairperson and Board to provide oversight to the operation of the VFA.

The successful candidate must demonstrate integrity, objectivity, accountability, an enquiring mind and independence of judgement. Terms of appointment are for a period of up to three years.

Please note that under the Victorian Fisheries Authority Act 2016, the Minister for Fishing and Boating cannot appoint a holder (or a person associated with a holder) of a commercial fishery or aquaculture licence, a member of the commercial fishing licencing panel or tribunal, a senior or executive officer of a commercial or recreational fishing representative body or a person who, within the period of 2 years before the appointment, had his or her  commercial fishery licence or aquaculture licence cancelled, suspended or discontinued.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community. We encourage applications from Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse and intersex people. We will provide adjustments to the recruitment process upon request.

Applications, including a resume and summary of relevant experience should be submitted online through the Get on Board website – www.getonboard.vic.gov.au (search online vacancies)

Applications close at 23.59 pm Sunday, 7 March 2021.
