The Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Luke Donnellan MP is pleased to call for applications for the appointment one Council member to represent the experience of Aboriginal people with disability.

The council provides advice on policies and initiatives to increase the inclusion and participation of people with disability in the Victorian community.

As a member of the council, you have the opportunity to provide independent advice the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers.

You can apply if you are an Aboriginal person with disability or an Aboriginal person who cares for someone with disability.  You must live in Victoria.

The appointment is up to 30 July 2022. The role is remunerated.

The Victorian Disability Advisory Council also has an important role in:

  • connecting with communities
  • providing advice on the development of a new state disability plan
  • monitoring the current state disability plan.

The council meets every two months. Previously this was by face-to-face meetings in the Melbourne central business district. Currently meetings are by a virtual platform. The council also holds an annual planning day.

Overall time commitment to the Council varies based on members' availability.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • high levels of performance in their chosen endeavours
  • high standing in their communities.

Applicants should also be able to demonstrate expertise in more than one of the following areas:

  • policy context and issues relating to disability
  • strategic thinking, planning and leadership skills
  • boards or committees of management
  • accountability and governance arrangements for statutory bodies
  • effective consultation and engagement with stakeholders.

The selection and remuneration of appointees to the Victorian Disability Advisory Council is in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.
