The Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Luke Donnellan MP is pleased to call for applications for the appointment a Chairperson to the Victorian Disability Advisory Council (Council).

Applications must be from people with disability who live in Victoria, or from Victorian residents who are carers of people with disability.

The roles are remunerated, and members will be appointed up to 30 July 2022.

As Chairperson of the council, you have the opportunity to provide independent advice the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers about whole-of-government policies and initiatives to increase the inclusion and participation of people with disability in the Victorian community.

As the Chairperson, you will lead the council and be responsible for maintaining constructive working relationships with council members and others.

The Victorian Disability Advisory Council also has an important role in liaising with communities, monitoring the implementation of the state disability plan, and contributing to the realisation of the intent of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The council meets bi-monthly, previously in the Melbourne central business district, but currently by a virtual platform. It also holds an annual planning day. The time commitment varies based on members' availability.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate high levels of performance in their chosen endeavours, be highly regarded in their communities, and have expertise in more than one of the following areas:

  • broad policy context and issues relating to disability
  • strategic thinking, planning and leadership skills
  • experience on boards or committees of management
  • accountability and governance arrangements for statutory bodies
  • effective consultation and engagement with stakeholders.

The selection and remuneration of appointees to the Victorian Disability Advisory Council is in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.
