Forthcoming vacancy for a Minister for Planning nominated Member on the Metropolitan Development Advisory Panel.

The Minister for Planning, the Hon. Richard Wynne, is seeking applications from planning professionals at a leadership level with experience in public administration and governance, planning policy and implementation, to fill one (1) vacancy on the Victorian Government's Metropolitan Development Advisory Panel (MDAP) for a four-year term.

The term of appointment for the successful applicant is due to commence in July 2021 and run until 30 June 2025.

MDAP is a non-statutory Ministerial advisory panel which was established by the Minister for Suburban Development and the Minister for Planning (the Ministers) in December 2017. MDAP is governed by its Terms of Reference and provides expert advice to the Ministers on delivering an integrated approach to metropolitan development, including:

  • monitoring, implementation and review of Plan Melbourne 2017-2050;
  • strategic priorities arising from the Metropolitan Partnerships process; and
  • responses to future reform challenges and opportunities impacting Melbourne's liveability, sustainability and international competitiveness, including economic recovery from COVID-19.

MDAP is comprised of:

  • four (4) Members with skills and experience in planning, community development, economic and environmental background, who are nominees of the Minister for Planning; and
  • the six (6) Chairs of the Metropolitan Partnerships, who are ex officio appointments to MDAP.

Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of skills, knowledge and experience at the leadership level in the following areas:

  • The Victorian Planning System, including Plan Melbourne
  • Development, shaping, review and implementation of planning policy
  • Community and economic development, sustainability and the environment, transport, housing and/or other planning and development matters
  • Experience working for, or with, the Victorian Government, including with department secretaries/deputy secretaries, CEOs, Ministers, Members of Parliament and advisory committees/boards
  • Knowledge of governance processes and understanding of the requirements of good governance
  • Communication, negotiation and collaboration skills
  • Ability to identify and interpret new and emerging issues in planning and development
  • Ability to build and promote productive relationships across the planning and development industry
