Community and business leaders, are you passionate about your local community?

Leaders in local business and communities are invited to help shape the future of their suburbs and regions, with positions on the Victorian Government's six Metropolitan Partnerships now open.

The Minister for Suburban Development, the Hon. Shaun Leane, is seeking nominations from a diverse mix of business and community leaders interested in representing their region on the Metropolitan Partnerships.

New members will work with local and state government to identify and explore local priorities and opportunities. Their insights help government to understand the specific needs of their local communities and drive local action.

The Partnerships play an important role in engaging local stakeholders and groups and deliver projects that directly benefit communities across Melbourne. Projects focus on local priorities such as better economic and social outcomes including jobs, housing, transport, social isolation, environment and health.

We are looking for people who are passionate and work collaboratively to make a positive impact in their communities.

The Partnerships encourage diversity. Women, young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people of all abilities, Aboriginal people and LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and gender diverse, Intersex, Queer and questioning) community members are encouraged to apply.

There are multiple vacancies to be filled across the Metropolitan Partnerships, including the Western, Northern Region, Southern Region, Eastern, Inner Metropolitan and Inner South-east Regions.

The term of appointment for new members will run from 1 July 2021 until 30 June 2025. Applications close Sunday, 16 May 2021. For more information on each Metropolitan Partnership, please visit the links below:

  • Western Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Wyndham, Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Melton
  • Northern Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Banyule Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and part of Mitchell shire
  • Southern Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Cardinia, Casey, Kingston, Frankston, Greater Dandenong, Mornington Peninsula
  • Eastern Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Manningham, Maroondah, Knox, Monash, Yarra Ranges, Whitehorse
  • Inner Metro Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Melbourne, Yarra, Port Phillip
  • Inner South-east Partnership – Covering the local government areas of Bayside, Boroondara, Glen Eira, Stonnington


Applications will be assessed against the criteria outlined in the position description. A selection panel will shortlist applicants against the criteria and conduct interviews.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo probity checks, including a national police check. They will also be required to declare any private interests and awareness of any potential conflicts of interest. Recommendations of suitable candidates will be provided to the responsible Minister and Cabinet for consideration.
